Yiwu is the world’s largest wholesale market for small commodities, and it is one of the easiest places in China for new importers to start. Here is a simple step-by-step plan for your first order.
1. Decide what you want to buy
Make a product list with photos, target prices and quantities. The clearer your list, the faster suppliers and agents can quote.
2. Visit or work remotely
You can visit Yiwu in person, or let a sourcing agent visit booths for you and send photos, videos and quotes.
3. Compare suppliers and get samples
Compare at least three suppliers per product. Always check samples before placing a bulk order.
4. Pay a deposit and follow production
Most suppliers ask for a 30% deposit. Production for in-stock or simple items often takes 15–30 days.
5. Inspect, consolidate and ship
Inspect goods before paying the balance, consolidate all suppliers into one container, and choose sea, air or rail freight.
